Open Banking Exchange (OBE) held a Summit to mark the beginning of a membership programme in Mexico that will provide Regulators, Fintechs and Financial Institutions with an opportunity to collaborate and share international best practices to help accelerate learning and understanding of open banking and open finance in the region.

Speakers

Rory O’Kane, HM Consul and Deputy Director of DIT Mexico 

Since 2019, Rory has lead the DIT’s offices in Monterrey and Guadalajara in the delivery of trade objectives, trade support for UK companies and support for investment into the UK. Previously he was at the DIT HQ in the Financial & Professional Services team covering the FinTech Trade and Investment Strategy for the Americas. Before the DIT, Rory worked as a Correspondence Manager in the Department for Exiting the EU.

Previously in the private sector Rory had worked in Spain in Business Development for an Andalusian Tile Company and in the USA as a Project Manager for a Construction Company.

Doctora Irene Espinosa, Deputy Governor, Bank of Mexico

With a financial career spanning over 26 years, Irene has served as Treasurer of the Federation, as Principal Counselor of the Office of the Executive Director for Mexico and the Dominican Republic of the Inter-American Development Bank, and as a professor and Coordinator of the Center for Socioeconomic Evaluation of Projects at the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM).

She is currently the Deputy Governor of Banco de México: the first woman within the Governing Board and the first to occupy a senior role in the bank.

José Antonio Quesada, Vice President of Regulatory Policy, CNBV

José Antonio serves as Vice President of Regulatory Policy at the CNBV, as well as chairing the Inter American Regional Committee of IOSCO and the IOSCO Growth and Emerging Markets Committee Working Group on Fintech. At a domestic level, Antonio is the Executive Secretary of the Board of the National Council for Financial Inclusion, as well as a Board member of CNSF, IPAB and the Mexican Financial Stability Committee.

In addition, Antonio has been a senior professor at several universities including ITAM, UIA and ITESM.

Esteban Dominguez, Head of Fintech Partnerships and Open Banking, Citibanamex 

Esteban began his career as an investment banker in a boutique firm in 2010, before moving onto Venture Capital, where he dealt with hundreds of companies. He was involved in the acquisition of two companies and the disinvestment of another, for which he was awarded the best transaction of 2014 by “la Industria de Capital Privado”.

Esteban then headed the administration and finance team for one of the largest retail banks in Mexico, and since 2019 has managed the relationship between Citibanamex and the Fintech ecosystem.

Ximena Aleman, CEO, Prometeo

Ximena Aleman is Co-CEO and Co-founder of Prometeo Open Banking. Prometeo is the largest Open Banking platform in Latin America, providing a single point of access to more than 33 institutions in 9 countries in the region.

Ximena is a renowned Subject Matter Expert on fintech in the Latam region, as well acting as a WeFinTech Ambassador, sharing her expertise on B2B sales and bringing new products to market. She has campaigned for gender equality and financial inclusion in open banking.

Juan Daniel López, Deputy Director Digital Banking, Banorte

Daniel López is responsible for the specialized digital channels of Banorte and generator of developments of new products and technological services. He has over 20 years of experience in Banorte, over which time he has been involved across product development and digital transformation.

Daniel is passionate about innovation and technologies which create new models of working across APIs, blockchain, open banking and fintechs. He is licensed in administration by the UVM, as well as certified by the MIT Sloan Management Executive Education, the ABM, and the AFI School of Finances.

Pablo Viguera, CEO, Belvo

Pablo is Co-Founder & Co-CEO at Belvo, the leading Open Banking and financial information API platform in Latam. He has been COO at Verse, one of the leading P2P payments apps in Europe, and General Manager at Revolut. Before that Pablo founded various start-ups and worked as an investment banker at Merrill Lynch.

Pablo holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a BSc in Business Administration from Universidad Pontificia Comillas and The Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania).

Emilio González, Director General, Nu México

Emilio is the General Director of Nu in Mexico, in charge of leading the company’s operation in the country. He joined Nubank Brazil in 2016 where he worked as Business Analyst, Acquisition team leader and in Customer Management.

Before joining Nubank, Emilio worked as CFO and Director in Strategic Planning at Grupo Topaz. Throughout his career he has collaborated with important companies including The Boston Group, CEMEX and Femsa. Emilio has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and an MBA from Harvard University.

Cesar Espinoza, VP of Real Time Payments & Open Banking, Mastercard

Cesar Espinoza is VP for the Real Time Payments and Open Banking vertical in Latin America for Mastercard, focused on defining go-to-market strategies for the entrance of these new Mastercard services.

Cesar has more than 13 years of experience in Mastercard ranging from advisors consulting services and product sales to business development.   Cesar was worked as VP for Government and Development vertical in Latin America, focused on capturing new payment flows, including transit and smart cities, financial inclusion and the relationship with IDB.

Victor Rivera, SVP, Open Banking Exchange Latam

Victor has led M&A and IPOs across Latin America and Europe and, more recently, has supported the development of the Latam Fintech and Open Finance ecosystem. During his time at Santander, he obtained extensive experience in Fixed Income, FX and Global Cash Management.

Victor is a frequent speaker on economics, long term investments and financial innovation and regularly contributes to leading finance publications and business associations such as the Cambridge Business Association. He completed an Executive MBA at the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge.

John Broxis, Managing Director, Open Banking Exchange

John is an expert on all aspects of open banking, open finance, regulatory compliance, and alternative payment methods having worked in payments and banking systems for over 20 years.

John joined EBA LEARING in 2002 where he created MyBank, a pan-European e-authorisation solution for online payments and open banking, which was moved to a separate company, PRETA S.A.S, in 2014 with John as Managing Director. In 2017 John launched the Open Banking Europe initiative, which is being rolled-out globally through Open Banking Exchange.

Federico Suarez, SVP, Open Banking Exchange Latam

Federico has 30 years of capital markets experience with more than 50 transactions executed totalling more than $30 billion dollars raised for Latin American companies.

Federico engages with senior management, regulators and investors across jurisdictions to help them understand what investors look for in a company aspiring to access local and international capital markets.

Federico is an Angel Investor and holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Universidad de los Andes and Innovation and fintech studies from Harvard University and The University of Hong Kong.
